Board & Governance

The Town & County Public Library is a public library serving the people of Clayton and Barbour County. It is governed by a Board of Trustees and managed day to day by the Library Director and staff.

We believe a public library should be open about how it is run and how it is funded. This page explains who leads the library, how decisions are made, and where our support comes from.

Board of Trustees

Our Trustees

Trustees are appointed by the Clayton Town Council and serve on behalf of the community. The Board sets library policy, oversees the budget, and works with the Director to plan for the library’s future.

  • William (Bill) Brown, Chairman
  • Jessie Brown, Trustee
  • James Beasley, Trustee

How Your Library Is Funded

Your library is supported by the community it serves.

The Town & County Public Library is funded through a combination of sources:

  • State aid through the Alabama Public Library Service (APLS)
  • Grants from foundations and partner organizations
  • Donations from individuals, families, and local businesses
  • Fundraising and endowments
  • Community partnerships
  • A small stipend from the Town of Clayton and Barbour County

Every dollar goes toward books, technology, programs, and keeping our doors open and our services free to everyone.

Accountability

As a public library receiving state aid, we report to the Alabama Public Library Service each year on our services, staffing, and finances. The library operates under bylaws adopted by its Board of Trustees.

Questions about library governance or policies? Contact the library and we’ll be glad to help.
